Barr Akeem Agbaje Mourns the Passing of Olubadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin
Barr. Akeem Agbaje, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and prominent son of Ibadan, has expressed deep sadness over the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), the Olubadan of Ibadanland, who joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.
The news of the monarch’s passing, just days after his 90th birthday, has sent shockwaves across Ibadanland and beyond. Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne in July 2024 and was revered for his calm presence, rich experience in public service, and deep commitment to preserving the traditions and dignity of Ibadan.
In a condolence message released to the press, Barr. Agbaje extended his heartfelt condolences to the great people of Ibadanland, the royal family, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the Oyo State Government.
“The news of Baba’s passing is deeply saddening. In his short but meaningful reign, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin served Ibadanland with remarkable grace, maturity, and a profound sense of responsibility. He was a man of peace and an elder whose wisdom we cherished.”
He further noted that the monarch's legacy will remain etched in the hearts of the people, describing his contributions to both civic and traditional leadership as worthy of emulation.
“On behalf of myself and my family, I extend our prayers for the repose of Kabiesi’s soul. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus. Ameen.”
