RE: Oyo North 2027: Endorsement of Prof. Adeolu Akande by Ex-Local Government Chairmen is Legitimate, Powerful, and Rightfully Justified
Our attention has been drawn to a statement by the so-called Alliance for Oke–Ogun Progressives, attempting to discredit the recent endorsement of Professor Adeolu Akande for the Oyo North Senatorial District ticket by 26 former local government chairmen in Oke-Ogun.
We consider their claims not only misguided but deeply insulting to the collective wisdom, legacy, and political relevance of leaders who have contributed immensely to the development of Oke-Ogun and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Endorsement by Grassroots Veterans is a Democratic Right. These 26 ex-chairmen are not political strangers. They are seasoned leaders with deep-rooted influence in their communities. Having served as local government administrators, they understand the dynamics of the region and continue to shape public opinion through their strong grassroots connections.
To suggest they lack authority or relevance because they no longer hold office is an affront to our political culture, where experience, service, and credibility matter more than titles.
Their Endorsement Reflects Informed and Strategic Leadership. The endorsement of Prof. Adeolu Akande was not coerced or “induced” as falsely claimed. It was a strategic declaration of support for a candidate with the right mix of intellectual capacity, national exposure, and local commitment. The ex-chairmen have chosen to stand behind a man whose track record speaks louder than political propaganda.
Prof. Akande's Vision and Impact are Undeniable. Prof. Akande has served Nigeria at the highest levels of policy and administration, yet remains grounded in the realities and needs of his Oke-Ogun people. From educational interventions to youth empowerment and advocacy for regional development, his works speak for themselves.
The 2023 experience should not be twisted. It was a testament to his growing support, and rather than weakening his momentum, it has energized a broader coalition now forming around him.
We reject the baseless attacks on the ex-chairman’s character and service records. If there are legitimate grievances, let the appropriate party organs address them. But turning a political endorsement into an excuse for mudslinging only reveals a lack of substance and fear of Prof. Akande’s growing popularity. Character Assassination is Not a Political Strategy. And it will be.
Oke-Ogun Deserves a Strong, Competent Voice in Abuja. The ultimate question is this: Who can best represent the interests of Oke-Ogun and the entire Oyo North Senatorial District at the national level?
The answer is clear—Prof. Adeolu Akande, whose unique blend of scholarship, public service, and genuine grassroots engagement makes him the most capable candidate.
The endorsement by 26 respected former chairmen is not just valid—it is a bold expression of grassroots confidence and political direction. It is time to focus on issues, ideas, and capacity rather than noise and narrow interests.
We urge the APC leadership, the good people of Oke-Ogun, and the wider Oyo North community to see this endorsement for what it truly is: a rallying call for credible, visionary, and development-driven representation in 2027.
Long Live Oke-Ogun.
Long Live Oyo North Senatorial District.
Long Live the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Signed:
Concerned Stakeholders in Support of Prof. Adeolu Akande
